[Abbreviated: PLC] The Pleiades Corporation controls the Pleiades Stellar System, a full ‘core’ system of the Terran Imperium. Settled in 2362 by the presumed lost worldship UES Halifax, the Halifax governors set about extracting mineral wealth from all corners of the stellar system and returning it to the populated twin worlds of Paradijis and Eden.
The system was rediscovered by the Imperium in 2454. They found a thriving corporate society that had filled the system with efficient workers and high end technology. The Corporation’s refusal to join the Terran Empire resulted in the Battle for Pleiades, a victory for the Pleiades Corporation.
The Pleiades Corporation quickly learnt of the Imperium’s success with transmutation and the blankicite material and decided they needed access to this technology. A series of black-op and counter-ops known as the ‘Race for the Blankicite’ ultimately resulted in the Pleiades Corporation joining the Imperium in exchange for access to blankicite.
The Corporation is run by ‘The Seven’ who continue to rule almost 150 years later. They continue to espouse the seven ideals of the Corporation through public video links, though few have any ever met them or know their true identities.
Pleiades exports precision equipment and their designs and starships are highly refined with a distinct style, and high price, and are known throughout the Imperium.
[Abbreviated: MFC] The second of the major corporations, MFC was quick to follow other corps path to riches through the accumulation of resources in the historic Sol system, however their claim to fame was the construction of a safe fusion reactor, the basis for all future civilization.
MFC initially shared mineral rights for the Terran System with INC but when INC left to establish their own stellar system colony, MFC took full advantage and through ingenuity and perseverance gained strong government traction.
They currently hold mining rights for many unpopulated systems.
MFC does not own any staryards but contract Mayflower Interstellar to create their own design of bulk freighters and mining ships.
The mining division focuses on surface and asteroid mining rather than deep vein and this takes their employees and contractors far from civilization looking for rare materials that cannot be transmuted from Blankicite.
MFC headquarters are based on Terra, but they compete with INC to secure mining rights throughout Shallow Space.
MFC are notorious for subcontracting the protection of AIM (Alliance of Interstellar Mercenaries) for protection and tight relationships are thought to exist at the very highest level.
Undisputed leaders in their field, nearly every fusion reaction in the Imperium was designed or developed by the MFC Fusion Division. They have a strong R&D contingent to further push the boundaries of power creation and storage.
MFC produced the first stable and safe fusion reactors back in the Sol System and this dominance was never argued. Even INC and PLC buy MFC fusion reactors.
They have many factories across Shallow Space which churn out the necessary components for a fusion reactor, but only one assembly-yard on Terra (the human home world) which is thought to be an intentional bottleneck.
